Establishment

Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Maharashtra Sheep and Goat Development Corporation was Established under the Companies Act, 1956 vide registration no. 20560/CTA dated 8 th August, 1978.

Objectives

1. To establish, extend to reorganize sheep breeding farms, of Exotic/Local/Cross-breed sheep and goats in the State
2. To multiply such units at location convenient to Sheep & Goat rising.
3. To import, export & sell the sheep & goats and its products.
4. To take crossbreeding program for up-gradation of local Sheep & Goat.
5. To establish, or reorganize sheep & goat extension centers in collaboration with the State Government.
6. To finance, promote, establish, administer & assist institutions run by Government, Co-operatives.

Government Resolution No. Pavia-2021/Pro.No.319/Padum-3 Dated 12/01/2022 as per clauses 71 and 73 of the Constitution of the Corporation, the Director Board of the Corporation consists 7 directors, it includes 2 non-official and 5 government members. Development Activities of Corporation –

1. Implementation of breeding program of sheep and goat at farms of Corporation and distribute improved progeny to sheep and goat farmers for genetic improvement in ND sheep and goats in the State.



2. Conducting three days training of goat and sheep business management at all farms and head office of Corporation on regular basis.
3. To provide facilities wool shearing by using machines to shepherds in the State.
4. Implementing artificial insemination program through AI centers of Animal Husbandry Department, Maharashtra State
5. Introduced digital AI gun for artificial insemination program in goats conducting through AI centers of Animal Husbandry Department, Maharashtra State
6. Implementation of goat development program in collaboration with Mandeshi Foundation, Mhasavad, Dist- Satara



7. Implementation of breed improvement program and health care programm in collaboration with Umed- Maharashtra State Rural Jeevannoti Mission

8. Proposed to establish “Wool Processing Centre for Non-Woven” in the State with technical support of ICAR – Central Sheep and Wool Research Institute, Avikanagar, Rajasthan

9. Health facilities (vaccination & deworming) to goats and sheep are being provided through mobile ambulatory clinic.
10. Establishment of silage production units with silage baler machines and animal feed manufacturing units at farms of the corporation

11. Providing marketing facilities for wool to the shepherds in the State, under this program Corporation procures wool from the shepherds and utilizes it to production of woolen products.



12. program of Conservation and Development of Madgyal Sheep is implementing since 2005-06 at Sheep and Goat development Farms at Ranjani, District Sangli.

13. Corporation has implemented Fodder Development Program under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana at the farms for providing basic irrigation facilities for cultivation of perennial and multicuts varieties of grasses.

14. To encourage sheep rearing business in the state, the state Government has approved new scheme with 6 main components named Raje Yashwantrao Holkar Mahamesh Yojana for NT-C communities in the State. More than 5000 families of the state have benefited under this scheme.

15. To boost up goat rearing business through cluster development in the state, the goat cluster scheme is being implemented in every division of the state. Under this scheme it is proposed to create backward linkages (to create new entrepreneurs of goat farming, training to the goat farmers, provide latest technology in goat farming, provide health facilities to goats, genetic improvement in goats and marketing facilities for goats) and forward linkages (establishment of slaughter houses, milking industries and cold storage on PPP mode)
