    Right to Information Act, 2005

The Right to Information Act, 2005 was enacted to establish a practical framework enabling citizens to access information under the control of public authorities. Its primary objective is to promote transparency and accountability in the functioning of every public authority, through provisions including the establishment of the Central and State Information Commissions.

Section 4 – Obligations of Public Authorities

As per Section 4(1)(a) of the RTI Act, every public authority is mandated to:

    • Maintain all records duly catalogued and indexed in a manner that facilitates the right to information.

    • Ensure that records suitable for computerisation are digitised and connected through a nationwide network, subject to availability of resources, for easy access by the public.

In compliance with the above, the Department of Animal Husbandry, Maharashtra regularly publishes information under Section 4(1)(b) and its sub-sections to ensure proactive disclosure of information to the citizens.
